Three cards

All three run twelve months from the day you buy them, all three let you in free, and none of them has a joining fee. The difference is how much of the back of the building you get to see.

What €120 actually buys

Last year membership raised €161,400. Of that, €74,000 went to the acquisition fund and bought the Rolfi; €52,000 paid two thirds of the conservator's salary; €21,000 relit Sale IX to XI; and €14,400 kept the study room open on Wednesdays. The board publishes the full figure every March and it is pinned to the wall by the desk.

I come on Thursdays after work and sit in Sala II for twenty minutes. It is cheaper than anything else that does that to me.

I joined for the store tour and stayed for the November meeting, where I have been outvoted eleven times and right twice.

My daughter is nine and the card gets us both in. We have a rule: one room a visit, and she picks it.
